At Melrose Arch, wellness isn’t something you schedule into your day, it’s woven into the way you live. From morning coffee runs to ticking off everyday essentials, intentional workouts to leisurely brunches, the precinct offers a seamless lifestyle experience designed around ease, balance and everyday luxury.

Offering more than comfort and convenience, Melrose Arch is designed as a sustainable urban precinct where people can live, work, shop and socialise within a connected environment, “where everything works.” With pedestrian friendly design that encourages walkability, and reduces the carbon footprint of constant travel, the precinct presents a more balanced and sustainable way to experience city living. It’s a place where sustainability supports lifestyle naturally, and now more than ever, there is a responsibility to be able to deliver on sustainability objectives.

With an uninterrupted supply of power and water being the two greatest challenges in Johannesburg at the moment, Melrose Arch has created sustainable solutions for both resources, and the precinct’s rooftop solar system is intricately accommodated across multiple roof surfaces. In addition, the precinct has two sources of underground water. Through its water treatment plant, water is filtered and cleansed before being converted to potable water. This water is channelled to standby tanks, which are in place to enable the precinct to continue to enjoy water when there are interruptions to the local supply. Melrose Arch’s waste separating facility operates 24/7, recycling the majority of waste created throughout the precinct. Through these sustainable developments, Melrose Arch is meeting the needs of the present in this world-class city within a city, “where everything works.”

Another exciting addition to the lifestyle offering in the precinct is the highly anticipated arrival of The Royal Countess Zingara to The Arch Pavilion: an unrivalled experience set to bring world-class entertainment and immersive dining to the heart of Johannesburg’s premier lifestyle destination.

This month Madame Zingara celebrates 25 years of storytelling, but beyond the velvet curtains, candlelit tables and spectacular performances, lies something even more remarkable: a family built over decades, and one we cannot wait to welcome to Melrose Arch.

What began in the original Loop Street restaurant has evolved into one of South Africa’s most unforgettable dining experiences, yet many of the people who helped create the magic are still part of the story today. In fact, approximately 60% of the original crew who opened the famous Theatre of Dreams at the Foreshore in 2007 are still with Madame Zingara today, a rare testament to the culture, loyalty and sense of belonging that defines the brand.

The Madame Zingara story is deeply personal too. During the renovation of the original Loop Street restaurant, one of the founder’s children were just four and five years old. Today, her grandchildren, aged four and eight, are growing up as part of the extended Zingara family, alongside the children of long-standing managers and performers who have shared the journey over the decades. Then there’s the legendary chocolate chilli fillet, first served in the Loop Street restaurant in 2001 and still the signature dish today. Over the years, well over a million fillets have been enjoyed by guests, yet the recipe remains one of Madame Zingara’s best kept secrets.

The performers themselves are woven into the fabric of the story. Jenny Lill, Madame Zingara’s very first acrobat, first performed her Lira act in 2007 after being spotted at a Johnnie Walker event in 2006. Nearly 20 years later, Johnnie Walker remains one of the brand’s key partners, while Jenny returns to Johannesburg performing a breathtaking aerial rope act. Another beloved figure is Lilian Khumalo, originally part of the first singing trio, Three Tons of Fun, which later evolved into The Original Tons. Two decades later, she continues to captivate audiences as the elegant hostess Miss Marilyn Monqoe, closing each evening with her unmistakable velvet voice.

The Royal Countess Zingara, more than dinner and a show

For 25 years, Madame Zingara has never simply been about dinner and a show, it’s been about family, nostalgia, artistry, loyalty and the kind of magic that stays with you long after the curtain falls. Experience the magic at The Arch Pavillion at Melrose Arch from 20 June 2026, where unforgettable stories continue to unfold. The Royal Countess Zingara experience is no ordinary night out, and bookings are now open via www.zingara.co.za and boxoffice@zingara.co.za or through 021 891 0448.

World-class, vibrant and always evolving, Melrose Arch continues to grow as a destination where city energy meets mindful living, and where wellness, work, dining, shopping, lifestyle, entertainment and leisure all exist within one wonderfully walkable destination. So, whether you’re fitting in a quick breakfast meeting, enjoying a relaxed weekend brunch, ticking off everyday essentials, or experiencing the magic of The Royal Countess Zingara, everything works together effortlessly in one connected space.
