It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and this festive season, magical moments await you and your loved ones at Joburg’s favourite lifestyle destination – Melrose Arch.
A tradition that officially heralds the start of Destination Christmas in the precinct, the magical Christmas lights, with a selection of sparkling new additions and impressive installations, were illuminated on Friday, 14 November 2025 at 7pm on Crescent Drive, and will continue to twinkle until 4 January 2026. It was a clear and crisp evening, as residents, tenants and visitors lined the High Street to be the first to spot the sparkle, and the wonderment was contagious as the precinct lit up in front of everyone’s eyes. It really is the most wonderful time of the year, and the energy throughout the precinct was electric. Inspiring greatness, and a highlight of the evening, for visitors young and old, was Santa Claus arriving in style in a Rolls Royce, a true testament to legacy in motion, courtesy of Rolls Royce South Africa.

With a fully loaded festive calendar, and something special for everyone, we kicked off this past weekend with the All White Christmas Classics on the Square, a unique festive performance featuring the Chamber Orchestra of Johannesburg, conducted by Kutlwano Masote, and supported by award-winning DJ – Courtnaé Paul, on Saturday, 15 November 2025. The performance really set the tone for the season, as the Square came to life in glittering white. Guests tapped their toes to some of their favourite festive tunes, before the rain started to come down – a true African blessing. With notes surpassing the soirée, proceeds from the “All White Christmas Classics on the Square” will go towards supporting Greendale House Palliative and Hospice Care.

Including inspiring works by Karl Jenkins, Morten Lauridsen, Felix Mendelssohn and Elaine Hagenberg, alongside festive favourites like O Holy Night, The First Noël and Silent Night, as well as Somerkersfees, Sonneblom uit Bethlehem, An African Christmas, and Merrie Krismis, it was a spectacular showcase where classic carols met contemporary brilliance, and every note reflected the beauty of the season.

There was singing and dancing, and the electric effervescence of the choir truly energised the audience. The second part truly touched the heart of South Africans in the audience with some serious homegrown talent performing heartwarming local favourites. As another performance with a purpose, proceeds from the sold-out “Carols by Candlelight” were in support of the Drakensberg Boys Choir and SA Harvest. Each candle lit on the evening represented more than 65 meals that SA Harvest will deliver to families in need this Christmas, ensuring that the joy experienced at “Carols by Candlelight” extends far beyond the precinct.
