Winter Lookbook | Melrose Arch Style Guide

Hot off the runways of Fashion Week FW 19/20, this is your guide to some of the top trends for Winter 2020! Get ready for a great deal of crossover between menswear and womenswear trends, particularly in terms of dramatic silhouettes, draping and bold colour blocking. Head to Melrose Arch and discover the season’s trends in fashion and more.

#1 Colour Blocking

Head to toe colour blocking is the way to go this winter! Bold solid colours and neons dominated the runways in preparation for the upcoming change of season. Particularly popular shades for the season are cerulean blue, reds, rich watermelon pinks and fuschias; making appearances on the runways at Balenciaga and Hermès, amongst others.

#2 Faux Fur & Leather

Leather and faux fur dominated the runways this season, with head to toe leather looks seen at Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton and Versace, to name a few. Faux furs, as seen at Michael Kors, Stella McCartney and Moschino, will see you through the winter period. Colour is everything, so feel free to layer bold colours.

#3 Ponchos & Capes

You may have thought you’d seen the last of ponchos back in the early 2000s, but this style is back and here to stay! Far from the bulky and knobbly ponchos of the past, the silhouette for 2020 is sleek and understated, featuring smooth ribbed knits and long bat wings.

#4 Suits, Blazers & Jackets

Bold looks for men and women are in this winter, with bold silhouettes and colours popping up as far as the eye can see. Sharp tailoring prevailed over more understated looks, emphasising this season’s underlying theme of confidence and power. Suits, blazers and jackets this year are larger than life, so stay on trend with over-sized tailoring, dramatic shoulder details and multiple layers.

#5 Bold Prints & Patterns

Do bold prints and patterns ever go out of style? This season we’re seeing everything from bold floral motifs, to checks and textured fabrics. Houndstooth is making a comeback, as are brightly printed shirts and blouses. Keep things light and layered, mixing patterns and solid colours is encouraged!
