22 February 2016, South Africa – Chef and healthy food campaigner, Jamie Oliver, and Whisky Creek Brands are proud to announce that the first Jamie’s Italian restaurant will soon be launching in South Africa. Justin Divaris,Stephen Gersowsky and Symeon Yiallouris are the executive directors of Whisky Creek and will be the exclusive operating partner for Jamie’s Italian in South Africa.
Jamie’s Italian will open in Melrose Arch in 2016. A partnership between Jamie Oliver and his Italian mentor, Chef Gennaro Contaldo, Jamie’s Italian has won thousands of fans all over the world for its delicious and affordable food, friendly service and buzzing atmosphere. The menu is full of rustic, Italian-inspired dishes with a Jamie twist, including bowls of beautiful pasta that’s made fresh on site every day.
Explaining the approach to his restaurants, Jamie says: “I’ve always been a huge fan of Italy – I love the passion of its people, the simplicity of their cooking, the incredible produce and the big flavours. I never fail to get excited about it. There’s nothing Italians love more than cooking an incredible meal and sitting down with the whole family to enjoy it, no matter how rich or poor they may be. And that’s what we’re all about – making good food accessible and affordable for everyone.”
The contract for the Melrose Arch premises has been concluded with a view to open doors in the latter part of the year and further locations are being explored across South Africa, with news to share soon. Built to showcase Jamie’s belief in good quality, honest, innovative and properly sourced food, all of the produce used will be sustainable with very high welfare standards.

Johannesburg is an incredible city with an established food scene, so to be opening a restaurant here is a huge honour for me. When we open the doors, we’ll be serving up beautiful, simple, great-value Italian food, all made with the very best-quality ingredients we can get our hands on.”
